Salman Khan’s Sikandar, which was expected to create quite some buzz at the box office, hasn’t had the dream run you would expect from the Bollywood superstar’s film. After collecting ₹30.06 crores in India on its opening day, the AR Murugadoss-directorial grossed ₹29 crores on its second day, according to Sacnilk.

This takes the film’s total collections to ₹59 crores. This is far less than what the trade pundits had predicted, especially when you consider that this is Salman’s return to the big screen after two years.

On Eid day, Monday, the Hindi version of the film saw a meagre 8.38% occupancy in the morning shows, followed by 26.70% in the afternoon shows. The film’s occupancy grew to 30.18% in the evening shows, and 33.12% in the night shows, according to Sacnilk.

Fascinatingly, it is the southern Indian city of Chennai that saw the most occupancy on Day 2 — 45.75%. Bangalore and Hyderabad followed, with 34.75% and 33.50% occupancy, respectively.

Sikandar, featuring Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, has opened to mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. The Hindu review of the film said, “Salman’s stiff presence and stilted dialogue delivery add to the woes. The action choreography has little novelty. In the absence of effective camerawork, it seems people queue up to be beaten by a star whose intent is intact but agility waning.”

Sikandar also stars Kajal Aggarwal, veteran Tamil actor Sathyaraj as Minister Pradhan, Sunil Shetty, Sharman Joshi, Kishore and Prateik Babbar. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala
