A24 has unveiled the first full trailer for Bring Her Back, the highly anticipated horror feature from Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou. Touted as a “spiritual successor” to their breakout hit, the film stars two-time Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins as a grieving mother desperate to resurrect her deceased daughter.

The trailer introduces Hawkins’ character, who is haunted by loss and seemingly unable to move on. “How did you cope with Cathy being gone?” someone asks her. “I didn’t,” she responds. But grief isn’t the only thing she’s holding onto. Claiming to have spoken with an angel, she believes in occult methods to bring her daughter back. “Some people believe the spirit stays in the body for months after death,” she whispers. “We can bring her back.”

Previously shrouded in mystery, the film’s plot has now been partially revealed. It follows a brother and sister who, upon moving into their new foster home, discover a terrifying ritual tied to their caretaker’s dark past. Joining Hawkins in the cast are Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, and Jonah Wren Phillips.

Co-written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, Bring Her Back was produced by Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton of Causeway Films, the team behind Talk to Me. The film was shot in Australia and co-financed by Salmira Productions and the South Australian Film Corporation. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has secured international rights, while A24 retains domestic distribution.

Following Talk to Me’s massive success — grossing over $92 million worldwide — Bring Her Back is set to hit theaters on May 30.
