Indian rapper Badshah is facing severe backlash online after making a controversial comment about British pop star Dua Lipa. A recent tweet has turned into a full-blown PR mess, as the artist’s remark about wanting to “make babies” with the singer was met with outrage on social media.

On June 6, Badshah posted a simple message on X: “Dua Lipa (heart emoji)”. A fan, curious if this meant an international collaboration was in the works, asked him directly. But instead of confirming or denying, the rapper replied, “I’d rather make babies with her, bro.”

The internet didn’t take kindly to the response, with many users labeling it “cheap,” “creepy,” and “disrespectful,” and criticising the rapper for objectifying the global icon under the guise of admiration.

Rather than apologising, Badshah doubled down and responded to the criticism in a follow-up tweet, in which he wrote: “I think one of the most beautiful compliments that you could give to a woman that you really admire is to wish for her to mother your children. Meri soch nahi tumhari soch saamne aayi hai” The statement seems to have only fanned the flames, with many accusing the rapper of being dismissive of the outrage and further missing the point about consent and respect in public discourse.

Badshah is already a father. He shares a daughter, Jessemy, with his estranged wife.

Professionally, Badshah is preparing for The Unfinished Tour, a U.S. concert series set to kick off in Virginia on September 5 and wrap up in Chicago on September 20. He’s also been in the news recently for his dramatic weight loss transformation, which has drawn comparisons to his contemporary, AP Dhillon.
