Alia Bhatt has postponed her much-anticipated red carpet debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, citing the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The actress, who was expected to represent L’Oréal Paris at the festival’s opening ceremony on May 13, made the decision in light of the sensitive geopolitical situation.

A source close to the actress told India Today, “Alia took this decision considering the tension at the borders. The Raazi actor did not feel it was right to go to Cannes at such a crucial time… her team is closely following the situation… she might look at another date to attend.”
Bhatt was scheduled to attend the event as a global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, joining other international representatives for the brand’s campaign themed “Lights, Beauty and Action.” Speaking about her planned appearance before the postponement, Bhatt had said, “It is such an honour to represent L’Oréal Paris at the Festival… To me, beauty is about celebrating individuality, confidence and self-worth.”
On May 13, the actress addressed the situation on social media. In a reflective Instagram post, she wrote, “There’s a certain stillness in the air when a nation holds its breath… our soldiers are awake, alert, and in danger.”
This would have marked Bhatt’s first appearance at Cannes. Though her debut is delayed, her team has not ruled out the possibility of attending later, depending on how the situation unfolds.
Bhatt is currently preparing for roles in Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail under the Yash Raj Films banner, and Love and War, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, where she stars alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
