Ajith Kumar on wife Shalini: There were times when I made wrong decisions, she stood by me

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar, who was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, spoke about the contribution of his wife, actor Shalini, towards the growth of his career. The Good Bad Ugly actor, who received the honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on April 28, 2025 (Monday), shared pictures with his wife from the event.

“Shalini made many sacrifices. She has been my pillar,” the actor said in an interview with India Today. “I am grateful for my family for their support.”

Speaking about Shalini’s support, Ajith said, “There were times when my decisions were probably not right. Yet, she stood by me.” The Vidaamuyarchi actor further said, “I am not being politically correct but I mean it in every sense. She was very popular and loved by all when she married me. Yet, she took a back seat.”

The actor said he never believed in suffixes and monikers. “I prefer being called Ajith. I am an actor by profession and I am paid for my job. Fame and by fortunes are by products of what you do.” “That said, I thank my fans for their unimaginable support.”

Ajith said the Padma honour hasn’t sunk in yet for him. “I am still a plain, middle-class person at heart. It feels surreal to be experiencing all these emotions. Moments like these tell us that you are in the right direction and you need to continue doing what you are doing,” he said.

On the work front, Ajith has had two releases in 2025. His Vidaamuyarchi, a road thriller, hit the screens on February 06, 2025. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the movie also starred Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja and Regina Cassandra. On April 10, 2025, Ajith’s Good Bad Uglyhit the screens amidst much fanfare. Helmed by Adhik Ravichandran, the action drama featured Trisha Krishnan, Prabhu, Arjun Das, Sunil and Prasanna.
