Kalaipuli G Sekaran

Actor, screenwriter, producer and distributor Kalaipuli G Sekaran passed away due to age-related illness on Sunday (April 13) in Chennai. He was 73.
Sekaran, who began his career in films as a distributor and financier, was best known for producing films along with Kalaipuli S Thanu under the Kalaipuli Films banner, a journey that began with their maiden production, the 1985 film Yaar?. Interestingly, the film also marked Sekaran’s debut as a screenwriter and actor.

A multitalented artist, Sekaran wrote the screenplay of nine films, of which he acted in seven, produced six, and directed five.
1988’s Oorai Therinjikitten, starring Pandiarajan; 1989’s Kaaval Poonaigal, starring Radhika and Nizhalgal Ravi; 1994’s Ulavaali, starring Ramki; 2008’s Kattuviriyan, starring Malavika; and 2014’s Oru Poo Oru Thuppakki are the five films that Sekaran wrote, directed, acted in, and produced in his career.
Interestingly, he is also credited as the music composer of Kattuviriyan and Oru Poo Oru Thuppakki. Kudumba Sangili and Jameen Kottai are the other two films in which Sekaran is credited as actor and screenwriter.
Sekaran’s mortal remains will be kept at his house in Royapuram, Chennai, for the public to pay their last respects.
