Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who produced Laapataa Ladies along with his co-producer, director, friend and ex-wife Kiran Rao, had earlier revealed that he auditioned for a role in the film. Now, the star shared a clip on his YouTube channel that shows him auditioning for the role of Inspector Shyam Manohar in the film.

The video begins with Kiran and writer Divyanidhi Sharma speaking to lead actor Sparsh Shrivastava about who brought in the idea of making chewing betel leaves a character trait of Inspector Manohar, a role that was played by Ravi Kishan in the film. Kiran shares that this was a mannerism that Aamir had added to the character when he auditioned for the role.

We then see Aamir perform as the betel-chewing, ill-tempered policeman, a clip that has now gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Ravi Kishan shared a Facebook page’s post of the clip, captioned “Aamir Khan auditioned for Ravi Kishan’s role in Laapata Ladies but was rejected,” on his official Facebook handle.

Many users also praised Aamir for having accepted that Ravi was a better suit for the role.

Laapataa Ladies, set in rural India in the early 2000s, follows the story of two brides who get swapped on the day of their wedding during a train ride. It has a screenplay and dialogues written by Sneha Desai, based on a story by Biplab Goswami. Divyanidhi Sharma has penned additional dialogues.

The film, starring Nitanshi Goel and Pratibha Ranta as the female leads, was chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars last year. The film is produced by Kindling Productions, Aamir Khan Productions, and Jio Studios.
