‘Thug Life’ trailer: Kamal Haasan battles Silambarasan TR in Mani Ratnam’s action-packed gangster saga

The makers of Thug Lifehave dropped the film’s trailer. The highly anticipated Tamil movie, starring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR, is directed by Mani Ratnam.

The film reunites Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after the iconic Nayakan (1987). Thug Life is produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies.

In the trailer, Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR are seen sharing a special, father-son like bond. Kamal Haasan’s character thanks him for saving his life. “We both will be together till the end. Our destinies were written to be one,” he says.

Kamal Haasan, who essays the role of gangster Rangaraya Sakthivel, announces that his syndicate will be co-handled by Silambarasan, who plays Amar. However, things go awry and the two lock horns with each other as we witness several action sequences in the trailer.

Mani Ratnam’s regular collaborator A R Rahman has composed the music for the movie while Ravi K Chandran is the cinematographer. Sreekar Prasad has done the editing.

Thug Life hits the screens worldwide on June 05, 2025. The movie’s first single, Jingucha, with lyrics from Kamal Haasan, has generated the right amount of buzz for the movie.

The movie also stars Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Nasser, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Joju George. The film’s action choreography is done by Anbariv masters. The film will be dubbed in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.

Mani Ratnam last made the Ponniyin Selvan films which went on to taste success at the box office. While the first part hit the screens on September 30, 2022, the second part released on April 23, 2023. Kamal Haasan was last seen in Indian 2, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster. The S Shankar directorial opened to mixed reviews and didn’t meet the expectations at the box office.
