Coolie, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is nearing its release date. The highly-anticipated Tamil movie, bankrolled by Sun Pictures, is set to hit the screens on August 14, 2025.
With 100 days to go for the movie, the makers released a short glimpse powered by a high-energy number from music director Anirudh Ravichander on May 06, 2025 (Tuesday). In the video, we see the film’s star-studded cast, albeit not directly. All the characters except Rajinikanth, are introduced through the over-the-shoulder shot as we see Soubin Shahir, Satyaraj, Upendra and Akkineni Nagarjuna even as we hear a rap portion in the song.
Rajinikanth is seen standing at a port, and the video ends with the superstar whistling. The movie is the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and Lokesh. Speculations are rife that Bollywood star Aamir Khan is also part of the project while the makers announced that Pooja Hegde is set to play a special role. Shruti Haasan is the other prominent actor in the movie.
The filming for Coolie was wrapped up In March 2025. The makers had released behind-the-scenes visuals of the film, showcasing Rajinikanth in an intense avatar. The veteran actor is set to play a character named Deva.

Lokesh had previously confirmed that Coolie will not be part of his popular film universe called the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which includes movies such as Kaithi, Vikram and Leo. Girish Gangadharan is the cinematographer while Anbariv has done the action choreography in Coolie, which will be dubbed in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
Meanwhile Rajinikanth is currently shooting for Jailer 2, a sequel to the hit 2023 movie by director Nelson Dilipkumar. The movie will have music from Anirudh.
