Jeremy Renner says he walked away from a second season of Hawkeye after Disney offered him just “half” of what he earned for the first.

The actor, still recovering from a near-fatal snowplow accident in early 2023, shared the details during an appearance on the High Performance podcast. According to Renner, the studio’s offer came as a shock — especially after the physical and emotional toll of his injury.

“They asked me to do season two, and they offered me half the money,” Renner said. “I’m like, wow, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money… Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over?”

Renner emphasised that he wasn’t asking for more money, just equal pay to season one. “I told them to go fly a kite at the insult offer,” he said. “I still love the character… but I had to defend myself.”

While Renner was firm in calling out “the penny pinchers” at Disney, a company insider reportedly disputed his claims to The Hollywood Reporter, though offered no further clarification.

The first season of Hawkeye, which premiered in 2021, was a critical and streaming hit. It holds a 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and drew strong viewership throughout its run, peaking during Christmas week.

Renner’s future in the Marvel universe remains uncertain. He is not currently listed among the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, though the full roster has yet to be announced.

For now, Renner seems content stepping back: “It’s a little disheartening that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me.”
